Since April 2025, businesses have already been benefiting from fast 5G Internet for Business from Odido, and with this new type, FWA will become suitable for more intensive use. Pre-orders for the new variant of 5G Internet for Business can be placed from today onwards.

In April 2025, Odido Business became the first telecom operator to introduce 5G Internet for Business, a business market adaptation of the popular Klik&Klaar Internet product for the consumer market. With 5G Internet for Business, there is more choice in connectivity for the business segment: fixed fiber optic internet or fully wireless via 5G. With the launch of 5G Internet Pro, Odido Business is now taking the next step: even higher speeds and double capacity thanks to a specially developed outdoor modem. This enables Odido to offer a customer-focused solution for business challenges that require more capacity and where continuous online connectivity is crucial, regardless of location or existing infrastructure.

"This solution has been specifically developed for businesses that need more capacity in locations where connectivity is crucial, regardless of their location or local infrastructure. We listen carefully to the needs of our business customers, and with the further development of 5G Internet for Business we are bringing even more choice in connectivity for the business market. Since its introduction in 2025, an increasing number of businesses have been using 5G Internet for Business as their sole connection or as a backup for their fixed fiber or DSL connection," says Martijn Teekens, Chief Commercial Officer at Odido Business.

Fast internet without cables thanks to a powerful outdoor modem
With 5G Internet Pro, Odido makes even more capacity available for more intensive use. This makes the product attractive to a larger group of business users who don't need to immediately switch to a fixed fiber connection. Consider construction site managers working on location or flood management operators who want to share live information about conditions in their area. The powerful outdoor modem of 5G Internet Pro ensures an even better connection to Odido's 5G transmission towers. Thanks to the outdoor modem, the 5G signal is brought directly from outside to indoors. As a result, businesses no longer need to worry about coverage in well-isolated buildings. The Pro edition delivers even more capacity, higher download speeds of up to 500 Mbit/s, maximum upload speeds of 50 Mbit/s, and capacity and stability for twice as many devices (20 instead of 10).

The outdoor modem, SIM card, and WiFi extender for the Pro variant of 5G Internet for Business are installed on location. Businesses that want to be first to use 5G Internet Pro can register now on the dedicated website.

Nieuws,Odido,5g,innovatie

This time, leading benchmarking organization, Opensignal, has named Odido as the number one 5G network in the Netherlands and confirms that consumers and business customers have the best possible network experience at Odido. Opensignal analyzes the mobile network experience of users worldwide and compares the performance of telecom providers. In Open Signal’s 14 defined categories, including download speed, user experience and 5G coverage Odido won across all categories in the Netherlands, making it the absolute number one overall. Earlier this year, renowned organizations such as Ookla and umlaut, both gave their highest ratings to Odido's network. Odido is the only provider to have received the highest recognition from all three top international benchmarks — a clear confirmation of its position at the forefront of 5G.

Best 5G network in the Netherlands
Globally, Opensignal performs billions of measurements on more than 100 million devices every day. On this basis, the benchmark organization conducts independent research into the user experience on mobile and fixed networks of all major providers. According to Opensignal, Odido was the winner in all categories of their study in the Netherlands and therefore has the best 5G network in the Netherlands.

During the test, Odido’s 5G download speed differential compared with other providers stood out. Odido customers achieve an average download speed of 331.9 Mbit/s with 5G - almost twice as fast as the number two in the study. Thanks to this super-fast mobile network, according to Opensignal, Odido also offers its customers the best experiences with video and gaming, as well as the best performance when using voice apps such as WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams and FaceTime. Lastly, the results also showed that Odido delivers the most consistent network experience.

“When we activated the 3.5GHz band, our ambition was to immediately provide our customers with the benefits of our upgraded 5G network to our customers. Opensignal's measurement results are recognition of our continued commitment to provide the best from our mobile 5G network. I am proud of the results and the huge advantage we have with our 5G network. Our customers can benefit from the fastest mobile network that is also extremely reliable,” said Søren Abildgaard, CEO of Odido. “In addition, the fact that we scored number one in all categories is a fantastic confirmation of our hard work and motivates us to keep raising the bar higher and higher.”

The network that keeps winning
In 2024, Odido was the first provider to activate the 3.5GHz band on the 5G network. Since then, more than 85 percent of the transmission towers in the Netherlands have been adapted to this updated technology*. All Odido customers benefit from a faster and more modern mobile network with the activation. Through the deployment of innovative solutions such as Massive MIMO and the cooperation with Ericsson, the speed and capacity of the network were significantly increased.

This award from Opensignal confirms Odido's commitment to providing both consumers and business customers with the best possible network experience, with access to the latest technological innovations. Other comparative network tests also demonstrate Odido's strong performance. Last month, Odido’s network was already awarded by both Ookla and umlaut. Umlaut awarded the mobile network the highest possible rating: outstanding. Tests by Ookla also show that Odido has the fastest 5G network in the Netherlands.

Source: Opensignal Awards - Netherlands: Mobile Network Experience Report, Mar 2025, based on independent analysis of mobile measurements recorded during the period: Dec 01, 2024 – Feb © 2025 Opensignal Limited.
For previous research results, consult newsroom.odido.nl.
* As if 31 March 2025, excluding small cells (i.e. indoor sites)

Odido,Nieuws,netwerk,5g

While consumers have already been able to benefit from fast and reliable internet with Klik&Klaar Internet, this solution is now also available for businesses in The Netherlands: 5G Internet for Businesses. 5G Internet for Businesses also uses Odido’s recently upgraded and modernized mobile network. With 5G Internet for Businesses, business users can get online quickly. 5G Internet for Businesses will be available to Odido’s business customers starting April 15.

More freedom of choice
In September last year, Odido revolutionized consumer internet with Klik&Klaar Internet. Now, with 5G Internet for Businesses, companies gain the same freedom to choose a connection that best suits their needs. Not every location in the Netherlands has access to fiber-optic or DSL connections, and installing cables isn’t always feasible — especially for businesses that change locations frequently. Thanks to Odido’s nationwide coverage, 5G Internet for Businesses keeps teams connected no matter where they operate, providing an alternative to traditional internet.

“The development of 5G Internet for Businesses aligns perfectly with Odido’s strategy to ensure everyone has access to a reliable, high-quality network,” says Martijn Teekens, Chief Commercial Officer Enterprise at Odido. “We’re offering business users a flexible solution that fits their needs — from construction managers on-site to cargo ships sharing live data about their position and load.”

Lightning-Fast 5G Network
The ability to deliver an alternative is made possible by Odido’s robust 5G network, utilizing the 3.5 GHz frequency band. This band enables higher mobile speeds, even in areas where fiber and broad band speeds have not been available so far. The upgraded infrastructure, including the 3,5GHz frequency, also increases Odido’s data capacity by two to four times, paving the way for innovations like Klik&Klaar Internet and 5G Internet for Businesses.

Odido’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. Renowned speed-test organization Ookla recently named Odido the fastest 5G network in the Netherlands, while benchmark authority umlaut awarded the network its highest possible rating of "outstanding," ranking it among the top two mobile networks in the world.

How It Works
For 5G Internet for Businesses, Odido collaborates with its partners to ensure optimal performance. Together, they provide hardware specifically selected to fully support Odido’s enhanced 5G Internet. The setup is simple: insert an Odido Business 5G Internet SIM card into the new 5G modem, and you’re ready to go. With 5G Internet for Business, up to 20 employees or devices can enjoy lightning-fast internet from one central location, with download speeds of up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 30 Mbps.

Businesses eager to be among the first to access 5G Internet for Business can sign up now via the dedicated website. In recent months, extensive work has been carried out to ensure mobile connectivity in the seven-kilometer-long Groene Hart Tunnel, the final of five tunnels that have been equipped with mobile antennas over the past years. As a result, the message “no mobile coverage” is now a thing of the past for passengers on this route.

Due to the numerous tunnels along the line, mobile coverage in HSL trains was impacted — a major inconvenience, especially since many travelers rely on their train journey to catch up on work or watch a film. Recognizing this need, Dutch mobile operators have worked hard in recent years to enhance the mobile experience for train passengers on this specific route. KPN, as the lead operator, collaborated with Odido and Vodafone to install mobile infrastructure in the HSL tunnels.

This was an exceptionally complex project requiring specialized installation techniques, as trains travel at high speeds through the tunnels. The systems had to be designed in such a way that they could withstand the pressure generated by these high velocities. Additionally, work could only be carried out during scheduled service interruptions. ProRail and Infraspeed facilitated the installation process over the past years, ensuring that mobile coverage is now available in all five tunnels. In the coming period, the network will be closely monitored and optimized to ensure seamless connectivity.

news,Odido,Nieuws,netwerk,5g

While Odido customers* will now experience a faster 5G network, Ookla, an international organization specialized in broadband speed testing, rates Odido's mobile network as the fastest in the Netherlands. As of today all customers with a 5G device can already benefit from increased speeds with the new frequencies. From August, Odido will increase the speeds of a number of subscriptions even further free of charge.

From today, the vast majority of masts will be switched on with the new 3.5 GHz frequencies and all customers with a 5G device and subscription will benefit from this. Especially in busy areas, such as cities or at events, customers will experience noticeably higher speeds. The rest of the masts will be activated during the course of the year and the entire country will be provided with the latest 5G speeds. In addition, Odido will further increase the maximum speeds of a number of subscriptions free of charge from August, also for existing customers.

An unparalleled network experience
Odido is currently working on modernising the mobile network. Despite the fact that this work has not yet been fully completed and the 3.5 GHz frequencies will be activated today, Odido's mobile network has already been declared the fastest network in the Netherlands in the Ookla Speedtest®. Odido has achieved the by far highest score of all mobile network providers in the Netherlands, according to the most recent analysis by Ookla that was carried out in the first six months of this year. The provider receives the award because it delivers the best average performance based on the measurement results of many hundreds of thousands of users of the various mobile networks in the Netherlands. Odido scores particularly high on download speeds. These speeds ensure that customers have access to video content, music or large files on their mobile phone at lightning speed. The Ookla award underlines Odido’s continuous efforts to embrace the latest technology and strengthen its infrastructure.

‘Everything for your network’
This is not the first confirmation of the superior quality of Odido’s mobile network. Earlier this year, the mobile network was awarded the title ‘outstanding’ by benchmark organisation Umlaut. This puts it in the global top three of best networks in the world. The Ookla award is a nice addition to this. Tisha van Lammeren, Chief Commercial Officer at Odido: “The Ookla award confirms that we are doing well to offer our customers the best possible mobile network experience there is. It is not only a recognition for our team, but especially for our customers who trust us every day. Their experiences and feedback are central to everything we do. Even the best network can always be better: together with our customers we strive to improve our network every day. We do everything for our customers’ network.”

Deployment of new technology
Odido is not only making its 5G network faster, but also smarter, through the current modernisation and deployment of the 3.5 GHz frequencies. The new network provides the opportunity to explore new applications, such as network slicing and Private 5G Networking. Johan van den Branden, Chief Network and Operations Officer at Odido: “Today, Odido is doubling almost all of the capacity of its already highly advanced mobile network. With these additional lanes customers experience more speed and a more stable connection. By making new progressive technologies the standard on our network, we are taking the Dutch telecom market to a higher level. The new type of antenna that we are using for this provides the best possible connection for individual users instead of for a large group. This allows us to truly optimise connectivity. There is no other telecom provider worldwide that is deploying this new technology and the 3.5 GHz frequency on such a large scale. That makes us unique in the world.”

* Increase is available for customers who have a 5G device. Earlier today, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate published the auction rules, giving the go-ahead for registration. During this auction, frequency space will be allocated in the 3.5 GHz band. Odido is pleased that there is finally clarity, that the auction can start before the summer of this year and that the frequencies can be taken into use from August 1st.

The 3.5 GHz band is an important next step for 5G services. The 3.5 GHz band is important because it is most suitable for applications that require high data speed and good coverage. This frequency band is also particularly suitable for demanding business and consumer applications. In addition, this frequency band offers more bandwidth than the 700 MHz band auctioned for 5G in 2020.

‘An end to uncertainty’
Margreet Hoekstra, Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs of Odido: “We are pleased that the Ministry has published its auction rules and that the auction can finally take place before the summer. We have been in limbo for too long in the Netherlands about the availability of the 3.5 GHz band for 5G. This frequency band is crucial for our mobile network to remain among the world's best. Odido is therefore pleased that it can now focus on the auction and then use the 3.5 GHz band to offer its customers an even better network experience.”

Odido wants to offer its customers the best network experience in the world and believes that its customers should always have access to the latest technological innovations. In order to meet the growing demand for data and to make the network ready for the activation of the 3.5 GHz band, Odido has been investing in the modernization of its network for some time. For example, Odido is currently modernizing all 5,000 masts spread across the Netherlands. The upcoming availability of this frequency band for 5G will therefore not only provide extra capacity, but also more (data) speed on the network, which will lead to an even better network experience.

Nieuws,Odido,5g,netwerk
