Odido first to enable ‘Roam Like at Home’ on the North Sea

Together with maritime provider Tampnet, Odido is launching Odido@Sea: Europe’s largest integrated offshore mobile network for the North Sea. Starting 1 January 2026, Odido customers will be able to use their phones at regular European rates under the individual Roam Like at Home scheme while being on the North Sea. The same will also apply to customers of other European operators. This strategic partnership offers both businesses and consumers improved coverage on offshore platforms, more efficient business applications, and seamless connectivity across the North Sea. With this move, Odido strengthens its leading position as a mobile provider while making its cutting-edge network accessible to both existing and new international users at sea.

Connectivity on the North Sea as at home
Until now, users at sea have had to pay steep prices for mobile connectivity. Roaming costs were high, while satellite and maritime services were even more expensive. By joining forces with Tampnet, Odido is putting an end to this situation. From 2026 onwards, the entire North Sea will fall under the individual European Roam Like at Home scheme: customers will pay the same rates as in the Netherlands and across Europe, with calls and data simply included in their bundle.

The mobile network now provides a reliable and affordable alternative to costly satellite services. Over the course of next year, Odido@Sea will also be expanded for international users, allowing even more people to benefit from this breakthrough in offshore connectivity.

Odido@Sea: Europe’s largest offshore network
From next year, users in the international waters of the North Sea will easily be able to connect to the Odido@Sea network. This extensive network covers close to 300,000 km² and includes the international waters of the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, and Norway, among others. Through this exclusive collaboration, Tampnet’s existing offshore network and Odido’s mobile infrastructure are fully integrated into one powerful network.

This integration brings immediate benefits: all Odido’s roaming partners worldwide will gain faster access to the entire offshore network, including future expansions beyond the North Sea. The result is Europe’s largest and most integrated offshore mobile network: a reliable connection in areas previously served only by costly satellite services.

Innovation at sea
In addition to consumer benefits, the collaboration also creates extra value for business and government markets. It enables more advanced mobile services at sea and better alignment of private 5G networks, edge computing, and satcom for offshore platforms and shipping. It will also support the rollout of push-to-talk services, 5G Standalone, and network slicing for business users. This opens up new opportunities such as deploying drones between land and sea to monitor ships and wind farms, or to transport goods, maintenance equipment, and other supplies more efficiently.

Starting 1 January 2026
From 1 January next year, Odido customers—including those with Ben and Simpel—will be able to use the offshore network within their individual Roam Like at Home bundle. Later in the year, the network will gradually be activated and made available to all other international users. Customers will receive the familiar “Welcome to” SMS once they connect to the Tampnet or Odido network upon entering the area.

The award was presented during the annual Telecom Insights Congress and is based on independent research among more than 4,000 consumers conducted by market research firm Telecompaper. Odido’s upgraded 5G network continues to win. This time, leading benchmarking organization, Opensignal, has named Odido as the number one 5G network in the Netherlands and confirms that consumers and business customers have the best possible network experience at Odido. Opensignal analyzes the mobile network experience of users worldwide and compares the performance of telecom providers. In Open Signal’s 14 defined categories, including download speed, user experience and 5G coverage Odido won across all categories in the Netherlands, making it the absolute number one overall. Earlier this year, renowned organizations such as Ookla and umlaut, both gave their highest ratings to Odido's network. Odido is the only provider to have received the highest recognition from all three top international benchmarks — a clear confirmation of its position at the forefront of 5G.

Best 5G network in the Netherlands
Globally, Opensignal performs billions of measurements on more than 100 million devices every day. On this basis, the benchmark organization conducts independent research into the user experience on mobile and fixed networks of all major providers. According to Opensignal, Odido was the winner in all categories of their study in the Netherlands and therefore has the best 5G network in the Netherlands.

During the test, Odido’s 5G download speed differential compared with other providers stood out. Odido customers achieve an average download speed of 331.9 Mbit/s with 5G - almost twice as fast as the number two in the study. Thanks to this super-fast mobile network, according to Opensignal, Odido also offers its customers the best experiences with video and gaming, as well as the best performance when using voice apps such as WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams and FaceTime. Lastly, the results also showed that Odido delivers the most consistent network experience.

The network that keeps winning
In 2024, Odido was the first provider to activate the 3.5GHz band on the 5G network. Since then, more than 85 percent of the transmission towers in the Netherlands have been adapted to this updated technology*. All Odido customers benefit from a faster and more modern mobile network with the activation. Through the deployment of innovative solutions such as Massive MIMO and the cooperation with Ericsson, the speed and capacity of the network were significantly increased.

This award from Opensignal confirms Odido's commitment to providing both consumers and business customers with the best possible network experience, with access to the latest technological innovations. Odido has, yet again, been recognized as the fastest mobile network in the Netherlands, according to Ookla - a global leader in connectivity intelligence. Ookla’s results are a testament to the hard work and investments made over the past two years, during which Odido has completely renewed its 5G network and introduced a new innovative 5G product on the Dutch market, called Klik&Klaar Internet. Benchmark organization umlaut confirms the exceptional quality of Odido’s network and awards it with the highest attainable designation of ‘outstanding’, placing it even among the two best mobile networks in the world. As in 2024, research by benchmark organization umlaut confirms that Odido provides the best fixed internet services in the Netherlands.

Odido outperforms its domestic competitors with 5G
In recent years, Odido has made significant investments in its mobile network. In 2024, the 3.5GHz band was successfully activated throughout the Netherlands and today over 80% of network sites across the country are upgraded to the latest 5G technology. Last year, Odido also increased the maximum speeds of a large number of subscriptions at no additional cost. By making new technologies, such as Massive MIMO, standard across the network, all Odido customers benefit from the fastest and most advanced mobile network.

Odido customers, especially in busy areas like cities or at events, experience noticeably higher speeds. Thanks to investments in the 5G network, it has been named the fastest network in the Netherlands in the Ookla Speedtest® for the second year in a row. Odido performance in umlaut tests
In addition to its mobile success, Odido’s fixed internet has again been awarded the highest score in umlaut’s latest test for the Dutch market, with a total of 964. High-Speed train passengers now have mobile coverage in all HSL tunnels between Breda and Amsterdam

Train passengers traveling on the high-speed rail (HSL) route between Breda and Amsterdam now have full mobile coverage in all tunnels. In recent months, extensive work has been carried out to ensure mobile connectivity in the seven-kilometer-long Groene Hart Tunnel, the final of five tunnels that have been equipped with mobile antennas over the past years. As a result, the message “no mobile coverage” is now a thing of the past for passengers on this route.

Due to the numerous tunnels along the line, mobile coverage in HSL trains was impacted — a major inconvenience, especially since many travelers rely on their train journey to catch up on work or watch a film. Recognizing this need, Dutch mobile operators have worked hard in recent years to enhance the mobile experience for train passengers on this specific route. KPN, as the lead operator, collaborated with Odido and Vodafone to install mobile infrastructure in the HSL tunnels.

This was an exceptionally complex project requiring specialized installation techniques, as trains travel at high speeds through the tunnels. The systems had to be designed in such a way that they could withstand the pressure generated by these high velocities. Additionally, work could only be carried out during scheduled service interruptions. ProRail and Infraspeed facilitated the installation process over the past years, ensuring that mobile coverage is now available in all five tunnels. In the coming period, the network will be closely monitored and optimized to ensure seamless connectivity.

Klik&Klaar Internet from Odido: The alternative to wired home internet is now available nationwide

Odido optimizes mobile network: 3G to be phased out for more capacity on 4G and 5G

Today, Odido announces that the 3G technology will eventually be shut down to make room for the more modern 4G and 5G technology. This is a next step in further improving the customer experience following the recent activation of the new 3.5GHz frequencies. Odido will keep the 3G technology available until at least August 1, 2026, and will communicate the specific date of the discontinuation of 3G services at least six months in advance.

To create bandwidth for the growth of new 4G and 5G technologies, Odido announces today that it will bid farewell to its 3G/UMTS/HSPA network technology. By replacing outdated technologies and modernizing the network, Odido is focusing its services on the 4G and 5G network. This not only allows users to benefit from an even better network experience through the highly acclaimed 4G and 5G mobile networks, but the phasing out of 3G also contributes to further sustainability of the mobile network.

Sustainability
By phasing out 3G and applying new innovative software to the 4G and 5G networks that determines the current broadband demand, the networks become even more efficient. This allows capacity to be reduced during periods of lower demand, saving energy without compromising the user experience. Capacity automatically increases with rising demand. This contributes to the sustainability of the telecom sector in the Netherlands.

Odido activates new 5G frequencies: the fastest network in the Netherlands even faster from today

Today Odido is the first provider to activate the recently acquired 5G frequencies, thus offering an even better network experience. While Odido customers* will now experience a faster 5G network, Ookla, an international organization specialized in broadband speed testing, rates Odido's mobile network as the fastest in the Netherlands. As of today all customers with a 5G device can already benefit from increased speeds with the new frequencies. From August, Odido will increase the speeds of a number of subscriptions even further free of charge.

From today, the vast majority of masts will be switched on with the new 3.5 GHz frequencies and all customers with a 5G device and subscription will benefit from this. Especially in busy areas, such as cities or at events, customers will experience noticeably higher speeds. The rest of the masts will be activated during the course of the year and the entire country will be provided with the latest 5G speeds. In addition, Odido will further increase the maximum speeds of a number of subscriptions free of charge from August, also for existing customers.

An unparalleled network experience
Odido is currently working on modernising the mobile network. Despite the fact that this work has not yet been fully completed and the 3.5 GHz frequencies will be activated today, Odido's mobile network has already been declared the fastest network in the Netherlands in the Ookla Speedtest®. Odido has achieved the by far highest score of all mobile network providers in the Netherlands, according to the most recent analysis by Ookla that was carried out in the first six months of this year. The provider receives the award because it delivers the best average performance based on the measurement results of many hundreds of thousands of users of the various mobile networks in the Netherlands. Odido scores particularly high on download speeds. These speeds ensure that customers have access to video content, music or large files on their mobile phone at lightning speed. The Ookla award underlines Odido’s continuous efforts to embrace the latest technology and strengthen its infrastructure.

This is not the first confirmation of the superior quality of Odido’s mobile network. Earlier this year, the mobile network was awarded the title ‘outstanding’ by benchmark organisation Umlaut. Odido secures preferred frequencies during nationwide 5G auction

Odido successfully participated in the nationwide 3.5 GHZ auction, securing the desired frequencies on the band. With these frequencies, the telecom provider is able to further expand the capacity of its 5G network, which will further enhance the network experience and speeds on Odido's mobile network. With large-scale network upgrades expected to be completed by the end of this year and the acquisition of new frequencies during the 3.5 GHz auction, Odido is poised to offer its customers an even better network experience over the 5G network.

The activation of the 3.5 GHz band is an essential part of the 5G network, and the auction of this band was completed today by the Dutch Authority Digital Infrastructure (RDI). In the process, Odido secured the position in the 3.5 GHz band that the provider had envisioned. ''We are very happy with the outcome. This 3.5 GHz band is crucial for our mobile network to remain among the global leaders. This new frequency band for 5G not only provides extra capacity, but also more (data) speed on the network. Odido fixed internet services named best of the Netherlands

Odido's Internet comes out top in umlaut's national network test. This is according to the benchmark organisation's annual test results published today. By winning this benchmark, we not only demonstrate the importance of fibre to deliver a consistent network experience, we also show that we are the best in this test with the most consistent internet experience of the Netherlands. Odido's mobile network was also once again labelled 'outstanding', making it one of the top three best mobile networks worldwide. Odido is proud of these achievements as the provider aims to provide its customers with the best network experience in the world and offer its customers access to the latest technological innovations.

The annual network tests conducted by umlaut are considered one of the most influential assessments in the telecommunications sector. With a score of 953 out of 1000 points, Odido achieves the highest score ever recorded among all Dutch operators for its fixed internet services this year. The test results indicate that Odido's fixed internet services stand out particularly in both upload and download speeds, and the latency of the fixed network also performs very well. The combination of these qualities leads umlaut to declare Odido as the winner of the test, providing the most consistent network experience of the Netherlands.

Mobile network scores in global top three again
In addition to its success on the fixed network, Odido's mobile network also scores extremely well, with a place in the global top three. Odido is delighted that its status as a world-leading mobile network has also been reconfirmed this year by umlaut's test results. The benchmark organisation gives Odido's network the best possible designation of 'outstanding'. Odido to participate in national 5G Auction

Odido can finally register to participate in the auction for national 5G licenses. Earlier today, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate published the auction rules, giving the go-ahead for registration. During this auction, frequency space will be allocated in the 3.5 GHz band. Odido is pleased that there is finally clarity, that the auction can start before the summer of this year and that the frequencies can be taken into use from August 1st.

The 3.5 GHz band is an important next step for 5G services. The 3.5 GHz band is important because it is most suitable for applications that require high data speed and good coverage. This frequency band is also particularly suitable for demanding business and consumer applications. In addition, this frequency band offers more bandwidth than the 700 MHz band auctioned for 5G in 2020.

Odido endorses Code of Conduct for Safe Construction of Digital Infrastructure

Odido announced today that it has signed the Code of Conduct for Safe Construction of Digital Infrastructure (GVAD). This code of conduct, initiated by Nlconnect and Techniek Nederland, aims to reduce the risks of accidents during the installation and maintenance of digital infrastructure. Digital infrastructure includes, among other things, 5G and fiber optic networks.

By signing the GVAD, Odido, along with other signatories, demonstrates its commitment to creating a safe working environment. This safe working environment is established, in part, by standardizing rules and safety regulations. In addition to Odido's belief that fiber optic should be accessible to everyone, the provider considers it crucial that data and telecom networks are installed and managed securely.

Largest Fiber Optic Provider
The installation of 5G, fiber optic, and other data and telecom networks is in full swing in the Netherlands. By adopting a wholesale model, where Odido utilizes networks from various major network owners, the provider has the largest provider of 100% fiber optic in the Netherlands, with more than 6 million households able to use these services. This is evident from the report on the State of Digital Infrastructure in the Netherlands, published today by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. The report pays special attention to the importance of high-quality telecommunications networks for the Dutch economy. Odido endorses this importance and is proud to have contributed to the report through knowledge sharing.

The Netherlands' leading position as a digital hub cannot be taken for granted and requires ongoing attention, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. To bring the importance of this infrastructure to the attention of policymakers, the ministry is presenting the State of Digital Infrastructure today. 'Maintaining and strengthening a secure, reliable, and high-quality digital infrastructure' is a key principle in the report and also constitutes an important priority for the ministry. Furthermore, telecommunications networks are identified by the ministry as one of the five building blocks of digital infrastructure.

The need for more data and a strong network experience at school and in everyday life continues to grow. This is why Odido has introduced two new fiber-optic speeds of 2 Gbit/s and 8 Gbit/s that are available to a significant part of Dutch households as of today. This means that Odido is now the largest provider of 100% fiber internet in the Netherlands and also provides the fastest fiber internet in the country. In addition, the provider is introducing a new advanced Mediabox featuring new functionalities to better meet today's customer needs.

In September of this year, Odido introduced itself as a provider that intends to be different from the mainstream telecoms industry. The provider believes that fast fiber-optic should be available to households throughout the Netherlands and that Odido customers should always have access to the latest technological innovations. This belief made Odido add two speeds (2 Gbit/s and 8 Gbit/s) to their fiber package and introduce a new Mediabox that combines Odido TV and other streaming apps in one place.

2 Gbit/s and 8 Gbit/s
The new speeds offer customers a wider selection of internet bundles and provide higher bandwidth with more capacity and stability. All this will create an even better network experience. Customers using fiber internet up to 2 Gbit/s can watch videos and play games on multiple devices simultaneously in the highest 4k and 8k resolutions. Mediabox
From today, new TV customers will also receive the state-of-the-art Mediabox that combines Odido TV with other streaming apps. It will turn any TV into a Smart TV. The Mediabox can be wirelessly connected via wifi and, in combination with the new Bluetooth remote control, provides more flexibility in where you place the device. Features like 7-day playback, Live Pause and various other handy functions, make it possible to watch TV the way you want. Internet and TV services Odido available on DELTA Fiber as of today

As from today, Odido internet and TV services are also available in the areas where DELTA Fiber laid the fiber network. This network includes 1.3 million addresses. This means that more fiber-optic network consumers can enjoy greater freedom of choice. The long-term cooperation between Odido and DELTA Fiber, to provide services to each other's networks, was announced some time ago. Now the first households can actually use Odido's internet on the DELTA Fiber network with upload and download speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps). Both parties expect rapid growth in the number of users.

The cooperation means a major contribution to the further digitalisation of the Netherlands. DELTA Fiber and Odido believe that every Dutch person should have access to fast mobile and fixed internet. This requires an open access model for telecommunications networks with attractive wholesale rates. The cooperation strengthens both parties. Also, Odido intends to use the DELTA Fiber network for the accelerated roll-out of the 5G network. Through this partnership, DELTA Fiber is expanding mobile products and services by offering their customers 5G, higher speeds and Unlimited data.
