Odido introduces 'Toestelinruil’ (Device Trade In): A fair price for your old phone
Today, Odido is launching ‘Toestelinruil’, a renewed and user-friendly way for customers and non-customers to hand in their old phone. They can use the trade-in value as a discount on their next purchase or have the amount paid directly into their bank account. Devices that are traded in are reused or responsibly recycled, giving valuable materials a second life. In this way, Odido contributes to a more sustainable world where everyone can take part now and in the future.
A clear and simple way to trade in
With 'Toestelinruil’, Odido is choosing an approach that is clear and easy to understand. Many people have an old phone at home but are unsure what it is worth. Through the self-service tool on odido.nl, customers can quickly see the estimated value of their device, with the option to receive support from a staff member in an Odido Shop if needed.
In the shop, the final value is assessed on the spot and can be used immediately towards a new purchase. Those who prefer a direct payout can send their device via PostNL. Once received, the device is checked, and the payment is made within two working days. This gives customers clarity and certainty throughout the process.
With fair prices, and no surprises
Odido aims to prevent situations where customers are offered a high price that later turns out to be lower. Instead, customers receive a realistic value that reflects the actual condition of their device, keeping the process transparent and expectations clear. For this reason, Odido does not use labels such as “as good as new”, as devices rarely meet that description in practice.
Contributing to a more sustainable world
Through ‘Toestelinruil’, Odido takes another step in reducing material use and extending the lifespan of devices. By reusing traded-in phones or recycling them responsibly, fewer new raw materials are needed, and the production of new devices decreases. In this way, the programme makes a tangible contribution to a more sustainable chain.
“We want to continuously improve our services and make them more sustainable. That’s something we work on every single day,” says Tisha van Lammeren, CCO at Odido. “With our simple and fair trade-in programme, we encourage everyone to hand in that old phone that often ends up forgotten in a drawer. It has value — for customers and for our planet. It shows that things can be done differently.”
Odido works every day on technology that supports people and reduces its impact on the world. Toestelinruil, developed in collaboration with Assurant, is one example. From this responsibility, Odido continues to invest in sustainable choices, accessible technology, and a way of connecting that reflects what people need.
