Odido to participate in national 5G Auction
Auction of 3.5 GHz band to bring more capacity and higher data speeds for consumers and businesses
Odido can finally register to participate in the auction for national 5G licenses. Earlier today, the Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate published the auction rules, giving the go-ahead for registration. During this auction, frequency space will be allocated in the 3.5 GHz band. Odido is pleased that there is finally clarity, that the auction can start before the summer of this year and that the frequencies can be taken into use from August 1st.
The 3.5 GHz band is an important next step for 5G services. The 3.5 GHz band is important because it is most suitable for applications that require high data speed and good coverage. This frequency band is also particularly suitable for demanding business and consumer applications. In addition, this frequency band offers more bandwidth than the 700 MHz band auctioned for 5G in 2020.
‘An end to uncertainty’
Margreet Hoekstra, Chief Legal and Regulatory Affairs of Odido: “We are pleased that the Ministry has published its auction rules and that the auction can finally take place before the summer. We have been in limbo for too long in the Netherlands about the availability of the 3.5 GHz band for 5G. This frequency band is crucial for our mobile network to remain among the world's best. Odido is therefore pleased that it can now focus on the auction and then use the 3.5 GHz band to offer its customers an even better network experience.”
Odido wants to offer its customers the best network experience in the world and believes that its customers should always have access to the latest technological innovations. In order to meet the growing demand for data and to make the network ready for the activation of the 3.5 GHz band, Odido has been investing in the modernization of its network for some time. For example, Odido is currently modernizing all 5,000 masts spread across the Netherlands. The upcoming availability of this frequency band for 5G will therefore not only provide extra capacity, but also more (data) speed on the network, which will lead to an even better network experience.
